Connect RadioBOSS with Skype [2018-10-03]

Deutsche Version / German version: schwarz-multimedia.net
Prequisites:
  • Download Voicemeeter EXE setup, install and restart your computer: Download
It's donationware. If you like the software you can support the developers with your donation.
  • Download and install Skype 8: Download
  • Make sure that your skype caller has a good mic. Skype is compressing the quality very hard, and VoiceMeeter also compresses sound. The better mic and connection is, the better the result is.
  • And RadioBOSS installed, of course.
Getting started:

Windows settings
  • Open Windows' sound settings. (Right click on speaker symbol in taskbar -> Sounds)
    - Playback: Choose "VoiceMeeter" as default device
    - Recording: Choose your primary microphone as default device
  • Communitcation: Choose "do nothing"
VoiceMeeter settings
  • Hardware Input 1: Select your primary microphone (play with MME or WDM, try out what works better for you) and disable Channel A!
  • Hardware Input 2: This is optional. If you want to connect a second microphone to your show select the device.
  • Virtual Input: No configuration needed. This is your system sound - including Skype and RadioBOSS. With that VU meter you can check the loudness.
  • Hardware Out A1: Select your speeakers. This is the device where you want to hear the sound of Skype, RadioBOSS and system sound.
RadioBOSS settings
  1. Playback:
    - Main (on-air) soundcard: WASAPI, VoiceMeeter Input
    - Preview device: DirectSound, VoiceMeeter Input (optional)
  2. Input:
    - MIC button: WASAPI, VoiceMeeter Output
    - Enable "Output to encoders only". That avoids an echo for skype callers.
Settings for Skype 8
  • Click on your profile picture and choose settings (or click the 3 points next to your profile picture).
  • Speakers: VoiceMeeter Input
  • Microphone: VoiceMeeter Output
  • Disable automatic volume and set it to a fixed point
During the Skype call
  • Share system sound: There's no single option for sharing system sound (= the music). By default, the caller can hear the RadioBOSS sound, and all other sound/music that you playing outside RadioBOSS. If not try screensharing in Skype with activation of sharing system sounds. Also check up your VoiceMeeter configuration.
Notes
  • Maybe your caller(s) in Skype can't hear your voice while a track is running in RadioBOSS with full volume. Between the tracks while a moderation it works like a charm.
  • Optimize the sound for your callers with windows mixer options. Reduce RadiosBOSS to 5-20%. You should make your own experiences with that.
  • RadioBOSS captures the Skype caller and your voice only when you enable the MIC button in RadioBOSS. Check RadioBOSS' VU meter.

Short note:
VoiceMetter (laterst version 1.0.6.0) works only incomplete with Windows 10 Spring Creators Update (Build 1803) and above.

I will post an update as far as VoiceMeeter is fixed to work with Win10 Spring Creators Update.

Please note: Microsoft shutting down Skype "classic" version (7.x) at september 1, 2018. You won't be able to use Skype classic after this date anymore.

That's why I recommend you to use modern Skype (8.0) from now on.
