Playlist Generator (4.1.0.209) Step 4 Jingle Sort Order has a bug

Hello,

We have been experimenting with various methods of generating playlists automatically with the Playlist Generator.  It's a wonderful tool and saves a lot of time.

We have structured a playlist of 8 Jingles in the order we want.

We have used the Playlist Generator and in Step 4 selected our Jingle Playlist so that we have a Jingle every 2 tracks.

But we can see a few problems:

1. The jingles are not played in the same order as the Jingle Playlist - they appear to be random.

2. Some Jingles are never played and others are played over and over again

3. Our total broadcast Playlist is 3hrs 15 minutes, with 26 Jingles played during that time.  Here is the summary for each Jingle:

Jingle 1  x  3
Jingle 2  x  6
Jingle 3  x  4
Jingle 4  x  4
Jingle 5  x  1
Jingle 6  x  1
Jingle 7  x  4
Jingle 8  x  3

I expected the Jingle Playlist to be played in order and in much the same ratio as presented in the Jingle Playlist.

Did you design it to be in order ?

Is there a bug ?

Thanks ... Jamie C.

It's not a bug, it's by design :) Jingles are always taken in random order.
In the next release we'll add an option to add Jingles in order or random.

Dmitry,

Haha, sounds good, but Jingles are not ALWAYS in random order :)  In our case we are using the Jingle Playlist to hold two categories of Jingles:

1. Station IDs made in the studio (new community station so it's important to reinforce the frequency and station name):
a) '1079 Radio Dungog' - 2 seconds duration
b) '1079 Breakfast in Dungog' - 3 seconds duration
c) '1079 Morning in Dungog' - 3 seconds duration
d) '1079 Afternoon in Dungog' - 3 seconds duration
e) and so on ...

2. Station IDs made by local business owners (new community station so it's important to reinforce the frequency and station name with a familiar name and voice from town):
a) 'This is Michael from Dungog Newsagency and you're listening to 1079 Radio Dungog' - 6 seconds
b) 'This is Kate from Dungog Readymix and you're listening to 1079 Radio Dungog' - 6 seconds
c) 'This is Carol from Dungog Chamber of Commerce and you're listening to 1079 Radio Dungog' - 6 seconds
d) 'This is Tim from Davey and Olsen and you're listening to 1079 Radio Dungog' - 6 seconds
e) and so on

And by putting the Jingles in a manually created Playlist we get the option to set the rotation sequence which will be something like this:

Song
'1079 Radio Dungog'
Song
'This is Michael from Dungog Newsagency and you're listening to 1079 Radio Dungog'
Song
'1079 Radio Dungog'
Song
'This is Kate from Dungog Readymix and you're listening to 1079 Radio Dungog'
Song
'1079 Radio Dungog'
Song
'This is Carol from Dungog Chamber of Commerce and you're listening to 1079 Radio Dungog'
Song
'1079 Radio Dungog'
Song
'This is Tim from Davey and Olsen and you're listening to 1079 Radio Dungog'
Song
'1079 Radio Dungog'

etc

'1079 Radio Dungog'
'Community Noticeboard'
'1079 Radio Dungog'
Song

etc

It's that simple .... but so important for us to organise the rotation order manually in the Jingle Playlist to give every business person an even exposure.

Thanks, Jamie C.

Jinlges may not end up in random order... If you have 6 jingles in the list, there are 6!= 720 possible permutations, so there's 1/720 chance for jingle list appear not no be shuffled :)
In the next update this will be recheked and maybe a better shuffling method would be implemented.
Thanks.
