Segue Editor

I wish to clarify how I should be setting segues for my news playlist. I have a playlist setup like this:
(1) NEWS INTRO THEME 10 sec
(2) NEWS BULLETIN
(3) NEWS OUTRO THEME 10 sec

I want (2) to commence at full volume at, say, the 5 sec point of (1) at which time (1) should fade out. When I set up the segue editor to achieve this, the fadeout happens but (2) does not start at the mixpoint. Should tracktool be used instead? Does it override the segue editor and should the crossfade settings for file types be switched off? Does tracktool in the music database take priority over tracktool used directly in the playlist?

There are several options for adjusting the "transitions" between your musical elements, jingles, and vocal tracks.

One solution: you can do it "manually" with the Segue Editor option (preferably 3 tracks):
  • Move from one track to another. Move with the mouse.
  • Set fades (In and Outro). The small circles on the waveform are to be moved.
This type of action is to be performed for the tracks in the playlist, and your transitions will be recorded until the tracks are played. As soon as they are no longer in the playlist, the transitions return to their initial state: "general" settings.

Another solution: use the Track Tool.

You can define the different mix points, particularly the "Start" and "Mix" points that are relevant to your situation.
The settings will be a little more precise than with the Segue Editor.

In this case, your track will have a "general" setting. And they will remain this way for all broadcast types (Playlist, Scheduler, Ads Scheduler, etc.).

Changes made with the Segue Editor take priority and remain temporary. It helps you adjust sequences as needed.

What I do at my station is I created a folder where all my news bulletins are saved (I subscribe to FSNNews, and my bulletins are automatically downloaded into a specific folder hourly). I then created a File Type for News Bulletins in Settings and assigned this folder as the source folder. I then also selected this file type to be treated as a voice track. I also assigned a news music bed for it (to play in the background).

I then opened the news intro file in Track Tools and placed an Outro marker specifically where I want the news intro theme to reduce volume and for the bulletin to begin playing. The intro theme fades out and the music bed begins playing as the bulletin airs.

This works for me perfectly.

Crossfades are applied in priority:
Segue Editor > Track Tool > File Type crossfades > General crossfades

So if you have the crossfades defined in the Segue Editor, they will override anything else.

When I set up the segue editor to achieve this, the fadeout happens but (2) does not start at the mixpoint
Are you sure the configuration is correct? Do you use the latest RadioBOSS version?

If news intros/outros are supposed to always fade out and mix in the same way, an easier solution would be to use the File Types or Track Tool to define those mixing points. Segue Editor only edits the track in-place, and it's a manual way to do things.
