createbackup produces corrupted ZIP file – RadioBOSS 7.1.4.0

Hello,
I’m reaching out to both the support team and the community because I’m experiencing an issue with the createbackup command in RadioBOSS version 7.1.4.0.

I had set up a scheduled event to run createbackup every day at 00:05. A few days ago, for unknown reasons, all of my scheduled events disappeared.
I tried restoring them using the Restore Backup feature, but the file was corrupted and could not be extracted.
I had to fall back on a manual backup from January, which unfortunately was not up to date.
I then created a new scheduled event with createbackup and tested it using Run Now.
When the backup starts, RadioBOSS closes and reopens automatically, I’m not sure if this is expected behavior.
However, the resulting ZIP file cannot be extracted: I get an “undefined error” when trying to open it with various tools (Windows built-in unzipper, macOS Archive Utility, and 7-Zip).
Is this a known issue with version 7.1.4.0?
Are there any reliable methods to ensure that createbackup generates a valid, restorable file, especially for preserving scheduled events?

Thank you for your help!
Mario

I use the create backup as an event and make a backup every hour with the command:
createbackup C:\Users\Pat\Documents\Radioboss\RB_PAT_ 7.1_32 Bit.zip
I have a backup there which is always overwritten and one with the original state when the Radioboss is completely set up
I have just tested and everything works perfectly

Thanks for the reply!

I’m also using the 32-bit version of RadioBOSS (7.1.4.0).
I just tried creating a new event manually with the createbackup command, but unfortunately the ZIP file it generates is still corrupted and won’t unzip — so I believe it’s not usable.
Just to double-check: have you actually tried extracting the ZIP file you generated using your event?
Thanks again!

I have tested it again and could not find any problems neither when creating or restoring the radioboss nor when manually unpacking the file with Winrar

Please try to pack another folder and unpack it with your zip program

Perhaps a new installation of Radioboss will also help

When the backup starts, RadioBOSS closes and reopens automatically, this is a expected behavior.

Thanks again for your follow-up and for confirming the expected behavior of RadioBOSS closing and restarting during createbackup.

I’ve already tried changing the backup destination (including saving directly to C:\), but unfortunately the problem remains the same.
What’s strange is that every time I overwrite the backup file, it becomes larger and larger, sometimes reaching over 1 GB, and it’s always unreadable and corrupted when I try to unzip it.

I understand that reinstalling RadioBOSS might help, but my concern is that I would lose all my scheduled events, which I’m trying to avoid, especially since restoring them from these broken backup files isn’t possible.

Thanks again for your help and suggestions!

This is not. Does it show any error messages? Please click Settings, Open Settings Folder, check how large is the Settings folder?

RadioBOSS uses a standard Zip library to produce an archive, either there's a bug in this library, or it's some other case like Settings folder is extremely large.

I just tried creating a new event manually with the createbackup command, but unfortunately the ZIP file it generates is still corrupted and won’t unzip — so I believe it’s not usable.
Interesting. Can you please zip the entire settings folder manually and send us the archive to support@djsoft.net? It'll help for testing here.

Looks like you save the backup in the settings folder itself, the next backup will include previous backup and it will grow like a snowball.

Hello,

Here are my answers point by point:

1. “RadioBOSS closes and reopens automatically when the backup starts.”
I can confirm that this happens every time I run the createbackup command. However, based on your response, I understand that this behavior is not expected, so it might be part of the issue.

2. “Does it show any error messages?”
No, no error messages appear during the process. RadioBOSS simply closes, reopens, and creates the ZIP file — but the file is always corrupted and cannot be extracted.

3. “Check the size of the Settings folder.”
The Settings folder is very large, especially the presets subfolder, which contains a large number of files and keeps growing. This might be related to the problem, but I’m not sure which files are essential and which are not.

As requested by Dmitry on the forum, I have manually compressed the Settings folder and sent it directly to support@djsoft.net using WeTransfer.

I hope the file will be helpful for analyzing the issue with the createbackup command.

Thank you again for your support!

Thank you, but I honestly don’t think the problem is related to the backup file being saved inside the settings folder.
I’ve always saved the backup to an external location, usually on drive V:\, or in a separate folder on C:\.
So it’s very unlikely that the ZIP file is including itself and growing because of that.

I’ll wait for your feedback after you review the settings folder I sent.

Best regards,
Mario
