How to search or filter tracks by File Type in RadioBOSS?

Hi team,

I am building out the music library taxonomy for our station, 3RT, using File Types to manage both automated voiceover sweeper triggers and Playlist Generator Pro rules.

Our setup relies on four primary File Types mapped to automated imaging matches:

  • M_Pop (Electric Cyan / VO_Pop)
  • M_Rock (Crimson Red / VO_Rock)
  • M_Acoustic (Warm Gold / VO_Acoustic)
  • M_Smooth (Deep Indigo / VO_Smooth)
We also utilize sub-tags (e.g., Pop_2000sPlus, Ballad_2000sPlus, Rock_Aussie_Pub, Album_Cut) alongside 1–10 ARIA ratings to drive rotation logic.

While File Types work seamlessly for sweeper overlays and playlist generator rules, I've run into an issue trying to quickly search, view, or filter tracks strictly by File Type (M_Pop, M_Rock, etc.) within the main RadioBOSS Music Library interface.

A few questions for the team and community:

  1. Is there a search prefix or parameter syntax (e.g., filetype:M_Rock or type:M_Smooth) available in the Music Library search bar?
  2. If direct filtering by File Type isn't natively supported, what is the best workaround to quickly isolate these tracks in the library? (e.g., mirroring File Type codes into the Comment field, Genre, or User Tags?)
  3. Is adding File Type as a searchable/filterable column or search parameter planned for a future RadioBOSS update?
Any workflows or insights from others managing structured File Type taxonomies would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Nick

Search filter by a file type is not available, because File Type is not a static field, and needs to be detected per-track - this makes any filtering on a large database very slow -compared to instant filtering using static fields, this would take several seconds.

You can add Tags which mirror file types, e.g., for a track of M_Pop type, also add M_Pop tag. This will allow fast searches and filtering, as well as using those tags in Playlist Generator and other places.https://manual.djsoft.net/radioboss/en/using-tags.htm

The reason I use the file type system is so the that the announcer knows the desire delivery of voice track condition as RB does not have ability for an announcer to preview the previous track leading into the voice track record.
The Colour coding of the File Type allows for this condition.

As RadioBOSS doesn't have filter/search by file type, you can duplicate the Genre in any other field, e.g. add a tag https://manual.djsoft.net/radioboss/en/using-tags.htm
