I am wondering how to test multicast over IPv6. Do you at DJSoft ever experimented using RB for broadcasting over a IPv6 multicast protocol? Maybe some of RB users have tested?
I'am not a network specialist. That is true that multicast exist in IPv4 but most "Internet" equipement does not support it making multicast unusable on the Internet. Multicast can only be used on LAN where you can ensure proper support of routers and switches. So it's pointless for a webradio. :'(
IPv6 has native support for multicast, so all equipment sould be able to route multicast. In that case it has a strong interest for webradios in order to same bandwidth.
So I was just wondering if you have some knowledge on it or proceed to some kind of testing.
I don't see much reason in doing this for audio, as bitrate is relatively low and Internet speeds are high and growing... I'll take a look into it when video broadcasting will be added in RadioBOSS.
