Prevent overwriting local file when server download is unavailable

We have some syndicated shows that RadioBOSS downloads from a server.
The problem occurs when there is no new file available on the server. In that case, we expect RadioBOSS to simply keep and play the existing file stored locally on the computer.
However, when there is nothing available on the server, RadioBOSS still downloads some small file/data of only a few KB and overwrites the valid local audio file.
It would be useful if RadioBOSS could detect that there is no valid file available on the server and, in that case, not download or overwrite anything. The existing local file should remain untouched and be used for playback.

It looks like the server returns an error page (e.g., 404 Not Found) and RadioBOSS does save this page.

It would be useful if RadioBOSS could detect that there is no valid file available on the server and, in that case, not download or overwrite anything. The existing local file should remain untouched and be used for playback.

It downloads whatever the server returns, and as far as I know, it will overwrite the target file in (almost) any case when the download command is called - not only on successful download.

From your description, you want it to function like Podcasts feature, when it always simply plays/downloads the latest file available. Maybe the source of those shows can supply it in podcast XML?

It's very simple.

We have set RadioBOSS to download news.mp3 from the server every hour, 10 minutes before the full hour.

If news.mp3 exists on the server, RadioBOSS should download it and overwrite the local news.mp3. This part already works correctly.

If there is no news.mp3 on the server, we want RadioBOSS to do nothing and continue using the existing local news.mp3.

The problem is that when there is no file on the server, RadioBOSS still downloads something called news.mp3, only about 10 KB in size, and overwrites the valid local file.
