Just tried it and it works fine here... Do you have the Minotor card selected? Also please make sure that M key is not assigned to anything else.

Understand your question. Mute is only for Monitor, isn't it?
I activated Monitor (VB-Cable) and Mute Icon appeared. M Key works

Yes, Mute is only for Monitor, and if there's no Monitor, there's no Mute, and M key doesn't do anything
