Random playlist problems...

I have just been trying out this software along with the StereoTool plugin - extremely impressive indeed.

Currently, I am still using the shareware version, but feel that I will be using this in my new station build.

So, hello to you all, and I am sure I will be back with questions later.

OK, I have a question already:

How do I insert a random track into the playlist - I have all my music divided up into folders of certain genres.  How can I make the program insert a random track from one folder, then another random track from another folder, all looping continuously, so that random tracks are being played all the time.

I tried making a playlist of one random song from one folder, but RB just plays the same song over and over - not what I want.

EDIT: OK, I have made another playlist that will play random tracks from one of the database files for 30 minutes(i made a database file for that folder).  I then inserted this playlist three times into the main playlist window, and clicked on REPEAT PLAYLIST.  Playing now - will see what happens.  With any luck, this will go round and around playing random songs from the same database...

Nope - not working - just plays the same songs over and over, albeit in a group of songs this time - how do you get random play to work?

EDIT: After several more attempts, I am still not having any luck at all.  I guess it is something I am doing wrong, but the manual is not specific enough with respect to generating random playlists.

I would love some input on this please, as if I can't generate random playlists that basically go 24/7, there is no point in buying the program.

EDIT: OK, I have kinda got a random thing working by using ADD TRACK LIST.  This does result in random songs being played, but only from one folder, not any of the folders under in in the tree.

I used to use ZaraRadio, and it was dead-easy to make random playlists: Playlist/Insert random track...  Then you clicked repeat playlist, and ZaraRadio would randomly play songs from ALL the music folders it could find in the tree beyond the starting point.

Any way to do that in RB?

Yes, the "Add track list" feature is what you need, except, that it doesn't take tracks from subfolders. This option used to take tracks from subfolders, but we excluded this during beta testing... Will be added back.

Okey dokey.   I noticed by looking at the M3U files created by the playlist generator, that the files to play are specified in the file, so naturally, this will result in the same files being played back.  FAR easier then making up a M3U list manually though, so that is a good feature.

ZaraRadio allowed you to insert random tracks alongside stuff like promos(jingles) so that, for example, you could simply setup say 6 random songs followed by a jingle, then repeat the list - it would do that all day and all night.  In my case, I would have all the jingles in one folder, and insert another random track as the 7th song, selecting one of the jingles at random, then it would go back to the music.

Is it something simple to add back in, or will it require a bit of time for you to code?

It's simple, and will be added in the next update of RadioBOSS 4.5 beta. Will be done by January, 10.
This will allow to use Track List like you want

It's just that the thought of having to re-organize about 15,000 songs in a tree is just too much...

Just downloaded an installed latest version 4.5.4.833, and this is still not working for me...   I go into Add track list..., select my folder, put the dot in RANDOM, and a tick in RECURSE SUBFOLDERS, but nothing happens.  Once that is done, and I click OK, I am brought back to the main window, and the folder is listed there, but clicking on the play button results in nothing happening.  Any ideas?

Are there any error messages in the report window (bottom left corner)?

No error reports - it just says STARTED - see attached image...

What is the source for Track list, is it folder or playlist? It won't play in one case: the track source is empty. I think we'll add an error message for this situation.

It is a folder with 250 odd MP3 files in it - it is not an empty folder.

Maybe RadioBOSS unable to locate files there for some reason...
I triple checked the "Track list" feature and it works perfectly fine here. Please wait for the next version (release is today or tomorrow) - there will be an error message in case RadioBOSS can't read source folder.
