Transitioning between Commercials and LineIN

I am a newbie, evaluating RB v4.7.3.4 for possible use.  I have followed the FAQ instructions as noted on the RB website for the best "way to set RadioBOSS so the commercials are played at a fixed time, and the rest of the time is filled with line-in broadcasting?".  My issue is with the segue between the commercial and going back to the LineIN.  The two are overlapping and the commercial is fading out.  I would like the Commercial NOT to fade out and the LineIN to start right after the commercial ends.  I have checked the individual "Fade In/Out" settings for the Commercial and it is set for "0".

Ideally, would it be possible to do the following?  If I have the commercial set to start playing, let's say, at 58minutes past each hour, can the LineIN do a very quick fade out, instead of a cold turn OFF when the commercial starts at :58minutes past the hour?  And then when the commercial ends, have the LineIN audio do a very quick fadeIN instead of just a cold turn ON?

Thanks,

Mike

"I think" I just found my "CrossFade" problem with my commercials.  I found the "Crossfades" tab.  Apparently, My "Commercials" are looked at as being "MUSIC".  I now need to figure out how to get my commercials classified as commercials!

This is possible.

1. Add line.in to the playlist and turn on the "Repeat List" option. Start line.in for playback.

2. Commercials: in the Event properties, check the "Overlay playback" option. "Set playlist level" = 0 (to silence line input). The volume will be changed smoothly from 100 to 0 and back to 100, so the transition will be good enough.

* How smooth the transition would be is controlled via Settings->Playback->Fading->Playlist ducking period (located at the very top).

For my solution above you won't need to do it.
But if you still want to, here's the article: http://manual.djsoft.net/radioboss/en/using_different_types_of_files.htm

Thanks.  I will give your solution a try.

By the way, If I open up the Track Tool for a given audio file, I notice that the "File Type" box is grayed out and unavailable in the section for additional information.  Is there a reason why it is grayed out and unavailable?

thanks again!!!!

Yes, the reason is - the feature is not yet implemented... Planned for the nearest future (RB 4.8 I think).
Currently to assign a track to a File Type use identifiers, as in the article I posted above.

I setup RB as suggested above.  The problem that I am running into now is that when the commercial plays, the Overlay playback volume is not changing the volume of the LINE.IN feed to 0db.  I'm hearing both the commercial AND the line.in at the same time. Other than that, all appears good.  If the Overlay Playback volume is unchecked, all works fine, except for the smooth transition and the Line.in starts playing just before the commercial ends.

running RB 4.7.3.4 (trial) on Windows XP sp3 using the onboard sound card (SoundMAX).

Settings/Options/Playback device for Main sound card shows "[DS] SoundMAX Digital Audio" using "DirectSound".  For the (Line.in file) setting, it shows "Windows Mixer Control (Windows XP only)", SoundMAX Digital Audio for device, and Line In for Source.

I'm thinking that the problem maybe with the configuration.  The reason I say this is because, when I press the speaker "MUTE" button icon at the top of RB, when the Line.In is normally playing, nothing is muted.  I also do not see any audio bar movements in the OnAir window when Line.In is playing.  Unless this is normal.

That's odd...

Please try updating to the most recent version (4.7.6.3): http://dl.djsoft.net/radioboss_demo.exe

Also perform a virus check on your computer. Weird things like this (when some features became broken for no apparent reason) are usually happen because of virus activity.

Thanks,  I will give that a try.

Update:  The issue is/was with the computer.  I found another computer to test on and all worked like it was supposed to.
