Please check the playback settings. What device is selected in the "Main output"?

Hey staff

The playback settings are fine when i install the new v 4.5 beta version of radioboss

but no sound comes out of it

and when you play a 24 hour .mp3 file, it won't allow you to skim through it at all

so when is that feature going to be fixed

Should put the option of putting each song jingle.

You seen how the jingle in [removed], would be a good option to take the idea of the software and apply it to radio boss, most RadioBOSS used to automate the radio. Besides the option of hours. The time is important in the automation of a radio.

Greetings friend

OK, I'll take a look into it. Password protection is on the way already and I think will appear in this beta version soon.
PS I removed competitor's name from posts as it's not allowed here.

Hey djsoft

remember you said this to me back on nov of last year

Hello! The chained OGG files are not supported with RadioBOSS. "Chained OGG" means that one file with OGG extension actually contains multiple tracks. RadioBOSS plays only the first track in chain, and not others.
I know I promised support for those files, but it turned out, that supporting those files is not that easy.
It should be there in the next update.

did you lie to me about that

just curious

let me know

thanks

Yes, I said "it should be", I didn't say "it will be". That means, I was almost sure that we will add, but, there was a chance that we will not... For now, I'd suggest you to convert those OGG's to MP3.

Hey Djsoft

do you hate .ogg is that it

is that why you won't add the full .ogg support to radioboss then

Hello there;
My name is Vanessa. I am a support worker of saucerfoot. I work with him occasionally to help provide support on boards. I understand that there has been an ongoing issue with him asking for OGG files to be supported. I want to thank you for your patience and understanding in the matter. I have reviewed some messages and have seen you attempting to provide whatever assistance you can to him. In the realm of autism, the word "no" does not compute. A "no" answer sends saucerfoots spiraling into various verbal outbursts and perseveration over the issue. So, I appreciate your patience and telling him that the support may be coming soon. However, saucerfoot has become frustrated with waiting. I understand that for a fee you would create a custom account for him that provided the support he needs. Due to the costs associated with his computer habits the $1000 dollars is extremely costly. Will the OGG files be coming along in the near future? Saucerfoot really enjoys radioboss and considers it to be one of the best programs. If we can work together it would greatly increase saucerfoots quality of life.
Thank you,
Vanessa

Hello,
I understand this, but, RadioBOSS is a public product - we can not abandon everything and do whatever one of our users wants. Every request, feature, bug etc. have priority here and we stick to it. OGG support is not an emergency, hope you agree with it.
I'm pretty sure it will be added this month.

From now, I'd ask to discuss the beta version of RadioBOSS 4.5 in this topic.

Thanks.

Good morning friend, sorry if at any time causes any disappointment, but we all try to contribute ideas to make the best Automator radiobes radio. (specifically radio stations). We do with the desire to annoy. Radio boss had a top 100, this version should not have to leave it to at least show the most requested songs.

Greetings Friend.

We're always open for ideas :) Previous post was about chained OGG's support.
And, we want to bring RadioBOSS to a whole new quality level this year. So, any ideas and suggestions are welcome.
The update of this beta version should be later this week with some new features added.

Thank you!

when will we be able to change the name for all connections. every cast just copies the same info for the station as the other outputs.
You mean, name connections in the list, or?

When you go to Settings -> Preferences -> brodcast (name, description, URL, genre, ect.. for output 1 output 2 ect...

basicaly the information for the station that is being broadcasted. All outputs share the same information so they are all provide the same info, and the only thing you can change is the top part fo the brocast page bibrate ect..

Will it ever be possible have different information on all the outputs? that way someone can have different radio stations with different names from the same radioboss. The music would be the same but you could have different radiostations with different names.

Ok, this will be added. It'll be possible to set an "override" for each encoder if you need different info for it. Thanks for idea.

Greetings Radioboss software writers/developers.
Thank you for your software which I am enjoying testing out.
I have quite a few suggestions for improvement which I hope you don't mind my putting forward in the weeks to come ? My background is in using mainstream professional radio software, so these suggestions will come primarily from this scenario, plus ideas I have which even the most expensive professional software still doesn't provide.
At this stage I would like to point out a bug with your Beta 4.5, latest version.
Silence Detection is activated, but Radioboss is not over-riding this detection when it is in stop mode. Play will commence regardless of the stop instruction, which will cause havoc if on-air in assist mode.
Many thanks and keep up the good work

Very strange... Just downloaded and it's .684 version. Looks like, old file cached by your ISP, please try this link: http://dl.djsoft.net/beta/radioboss_4.5_beta.exe?nocache

Silence Detection is activated, but Radioboss is not over-riding this detection when it is in stop mode. Play will commence regardless of the stop instruction, which will cause havoc if on-air in assist mode.
Thanks for testing!
There are many talks about this Silence Detector. In the earlier versions, when it doesn't take action in "Stop" state, people say that it should as it's "silence" and silence detector should remove it :) Now it works in stop mode, and we get many requests that it shouldn't work in that mode... This will be changed again in the next update. Or maybe we will even add a setting for it.

does this new update allow people to use the new shoutcast v2 server on radioboss now
As I tested, shoutcast works here. But, didn't tested it with Shoutcast v2.

I tested my shoutcast v2 server on this new update of radioboss
1) No one promised it will work with Shoutcast v2
2) ShoutCAST v2 itself is still at beta stage. That's why I don't think it's a good idea to add support for this now.

Bugs on Ver 4.5.0.684
(1) The volume fader only starts to increase from mid-way along the fader, rather than the very start. This has only started happening with 684.
(2) I'm using Win 7, and RB is automatically muting the Main Output sound on startup of the program. A friend tells me the same thing is happening with XP, tho I haven't tried it myself with XP to verify this. This problem is not unique to 684, but has happened with previous beta versions.
Keep up the good work, its going well.

That's strange as program tested on all possible versions of Windows including Windows 2008 and we didn't notice this.
It mutes the global volume of sound card in Windows mixer? BTW, what sound card are you using?
Title: Re: RadioBOSS 4.5 [beta]
Post by: DJSTU on January 20, 2011, 07:45:15 PM
Please give more details on this...
Hmmmmmm.....how to describe this ?
This is the built in Volume in RB (Under Settings/View and Volume "ticked" box)
The volume fader is say this size in all            |||___________________|||
Slide fader to here and no sound...                |||>>>>>>>>                |||
Sound starts from this position onwards...       |||              >>>>>>>>>|||
This only started happening with Ver 684, previous versions were fine.
BTW, what sound card are you using?
I am using a sound card built into the Mobo. Device Manager on Win 7 is useless at telling me what is. All it says is "High Audio Definition Device". So I don't imagine that's of much use to you.
Sorry I can't really help you here.
And yes, it is the Windows Mixer we are talking about. RB starts up, you click Play and visualization indicates the track is playing, the Progress Bar is moving along too, but just no sound. You then have to go to the Windows Mixer and unmute the sound.
This muting is only happening on RB startup.
BUT I can tell you that two other friends are experiencing the same thing and they are using Win XP

I have XPPro (yes a legal version) and when I loaded my new registered version of RadioBoss on to my computer, it defaulted to the wav applet being muted on my very standard Soundblaster PCI card... as per the attached picture for those who are not audio applet literate.

(Mocked up picture)

I've yet to establish whether it's a recurring problem or not.

I'll report back later

Thank for info. Maybe you have the "Logarithmic" mode on? (it's on General tab)

That "Mute" bug is in our list now. Very strange, I did a quick test in a Windows XP SP3 machine and Wave out was not muted...

Yes, this is some kind of "feature" :) I'm not sure it can be easily fixed, because RadioBOSS has to send stereo data to server, and when prelisten is set to "stereo split" - one channel is taken for prelistening. But, encoder doesn't care about it...
For now, please consider it as limitation and don't use stereo split when broadcasting.
There are still other (and better) ways for prelistening:
1) use another sound card
2) use another channel pair on the same sound card.

Yes, I had it on Logarithmic. I changed to Linear and everything is now fine. ;D
I might be going mad but I'm sure I didn't change it after installing 684 since I wasn't at all certain what the difference was between the two. But then again maybe I did change it, maybe only myself to blame, and, also apologies to you for wasting your time on matter if I did.

It's Linear by default, so I suppose you changed it by accident :)

Also, we confirmed the bug when RadioBOSS muted sound card output, and it is almost fixed.

You dont use fast forward and rewind audio on air.

Use another program if you want to play with the audio... Winamp maybe.

saucerfoot it is not a good idea. People who buy Advanced (and any other edition of RadioBOSS) never need those buttons. So, why should unused stuff stay in the program?
Autism has nothing to do here, you can read Wikipedia article about autism and it doesn't say anything concerning FF and Rewind functions.
Who will like the video you broadcast when you constantly FF or rewind it? The answer is: No one.
Discussion is closed. Buttons are gone. Amen.

UPD Any other off-topic posts will be removed without any response.

Thanks! I didn't find a better place for a volume slider, so let it be under playlists for now...

saucerfoot, seeking with right click is the only option now, and I see no difference between clicking left or right mouse button. Also, seeking is done very rarely (and usually it's not done at all) while broadcasting. Think about it.

Will it ever be possible have different information on all the outputs? that way someone can have different radio stations with different names from the same radioboss. The music would be the same but you could have different radiostations with different names.
Ok, this will be added. It'll be possible to set an "override" for each encoder if you need different info for it. Thanks for idea.

will this be added in 4.5?

RadioBOSS 4.5.0.694 Released!
http://dl.djsoft.net/beta/radioboss_4.5_beta.exe
Changes:
- Added Space bar hot key in the Music Library

Thank you for the latest updates... but where is the Space bar hot key, or am I to understand that you have included it as an action, which allows the use of Space Bar to Start audio, Stop audio and move to next audio event... all of which is good, but the naming/labelling (or lack of it) may be ambiguous.

While on the subject of the Music Library, may I offer these suggestions

As per the pic below:

1) Replace "Prelisten" with 2) "Device"
3) Change syntax of "Do not add blank tag files" to "Do not add files with blank tags"
4) Add a field and/or box which counts files without tags and displays this information.

I am aware or assume, that the play device for the music library can be determined in Settings/Playback/Devices/Auxilliary Outputs, which is, in fact another name for 2nd device.

Am I correct in this assumption?

Space Bar works only in Music Library and not in RadioBOSS.

1) Replace "Prelisten" with 2) "Device"
3) Change syntax of "Do not add blank tag files" to "Do not add files with blank tags"
4) Add a field and/or box which counts files without tags and displays this information.
Ok, scheduled this for the next update.

Auxiliary Outputs are additional devices for the "Main Output". This allows playback on several cards simultaneously. "Prelisten Device" is the second device and that's what used for Music Library output.
The layout of Playback settings will be changed in the future to make this more clear.

RadioBOSS 4.5.0.701 Released!Changes:
- The "Now playing" bar shows track waveform
- Fixed some bugs
It is appreciated that various additions are made to RadioBoss in response to potential users requests, however it is with the greatest respect that I suggest that superimposing a waveform over the progress bar is irrelevant.

In a real world situation this addition is IMHO an unnecessary use of CPU and somewhat distracting.

There is a waveform display in Tracktool which serves a most useful purpose, but when it comes to the day to day use of RadioBoss as an excellent, simple playout system, the waveform graphics in playout mode serves no satisfactory purpose as I see it.

Additionally it seems to give my humble computer conniptions, but that is a problem of my own and not of RadioBoss.

Please accept my criticism as constructive.

It's still beta. For broadcasting encoders, we will add the Sample Freq and Channels settings. Maybe "Station info override" too. I can't promise the latter, maybe it'll go in the 4.5.1.

In a real world situation this addition is IMHO an unnecessary use of CPU and somewhat distracting.
It doesn't use much CPU/memory, the waveform display is well optimized. Also, it's processed in the background, so it has absolutely no interference with UI or playback engine. Nothing to worry about :)
I had some requests to display waveform during playback (the first request was in 2008) - and it's finally added. In the next update the waveform can be turned off from the Settings window.
BTW, just tried to turn it off, and the "Now Playing" looks very empty and like it's not completed...

Yes, it seems that rendering of waveform relies on video card capabilities and sometimes can cause lagging. Already received reports about it. If will be improved in the next update, and as I said, an option will be added to turn it off.

It's easier to update whole program than to make patches. Patching makes sense when install size is about 500Mb or more. It's not necessary for 15Mb software :)
The update will be tomorrow.

It might seem from the reports coming back to you Djsoft that the new waveform isn't performing as expected perhaps ? Well I just wanted to let you know that this isn't the case with all of us, that I'm not experiencing any problems whatsoever with the new waveform, and this is using 2 computers on Win7 and WinXP. Its working extremely well, so this would suggest its the users computers are most probably the cause of their problem/s, and its not anything to do with the software itself.
May I also say that I like the addition of the waveform, its a novel idea not used on any other software that I have tried, and I can see practical uses for it. Well done Djsoft for coming up with the idea !
So I certainly wouldn't like to see it go now that its arrived, but the option of being able to turn it on or off is probably a good idea for those whose computers/video cards can't handle it, or where they are personally not keen on it.

@radium98
I think perhaps you forget that this is BETA software, and therefore subject to various developmental problems, which the end user experiences and reports back on to those writing the software.
You shouldn't be reliant on the software performing as though its released software. If you are, then its a problem of your own making. Your demanding is a bit unfair on the developers ! Its Beta, so expect errors !
Why don't you install each release independent of the previous one. Sure, its a bit more work, but it means that if a release doesn't work to your satisfaction, then you can dump it and revert back to the old one.
It's much better way of handling it, than, installing new releases over the top of previous ones and encountering unexpected problems.

DJSTU Of course it won't be removed, as I like it very much, and anyone to whom I had shown it, like it too. I didn't get any problems or performance issues on machines I have here (slowest is 2800Mhz with some very old GeForce card)... it may be some driver issue or old libraries in Windows. I'll come up with solution within couple of days.

Beta is beta. There wouldn't be any progress in software development if we won't do any experiments, technology changes, optimizations, etc... Many thanks for everyone who spend time testing it, it's really helpful! The problems or bugs is just a part of process :)

I've included some screenshots of performance to assist troubleshooting.

FYI My system is Pentium 4, 2.66GHz, 2GB Ram and all testing is done on this one machine.

EDIT

The first pic is version 694, with audio running for approx 30 seconds
The second is version 701, with audio running for approx 120 seconds  (Note the Task Manager display freezes relative to the first pic)

Audio stutters when loading the first audio file in 701, but does not appear to have the same problem for subsequent audio.

WAVEFORM
Djsoft...Please take a look at the attached pic.
I just want to bring to your attention several anomalies, which may be explainable, or, maybe they are bugs:

(1) The waveforms for the same song between TrackTool and Playing ON_AIR don't look like each other in their outline formation. I feel that the TrackTool one is probably the one closer to the real thing, and the on-air one is NOT really representative of the songs actual waveform (it appears flattened).
Also, I realise, the one in the on-air section is very stretched out, which would also help to make it look different (perhaps).
One other song that I looked at in TrackTool (but can't find it now to show you) had one serious peak at the Top and one serious peak at the Bottom. Yet in the on-air, it showed as 3 serious peaks at the top and 3 serious peaks at the bottom.

(2) The end BLUE in the track being played seems way bigger than its actual size in TrackTool. In tracktool the difference between the end and the actual length of the song is 2.25 secs, but the Blue would indicate its way bigger than that. Perhaps the on-air Blue is representing the "Remove Gaps Between Tracks" settings rather than Tracktool ?

Would be interested in your comments.
LATER EDIT
Looks like part of our answer lies in the 2nd smaller pic showing the FX screen where it shows the END is 7.85 secs.

Audio stutters when loading the first audio file in 701, but does not appear to have the same problem for subsequent audio.
Thanks for the info. It seems that performance depends on video card only: if video hardware acceleration is disabled, or if video card doesn't have that h/w acceleration - the CPU load will be somewhere between 70-100% as on your screenshot (otherwise it will be 0-2% because video card does all the work).
It's optimized again, and now takes almost no CPU to redraw (even when run under virtual machine) - the release will be later today with some other fixes.

Also, I realise, the one in the on-air section is very stretched out, which would also help to make it look different (perhaps).
That's the only reason it could look differently. To compare the waveforms it's better to make them have same width.
The file reading and drawing algorithms are exactly the same between track tool and waveform (the difference is the drawing method, but it can't alter the resulting image).
Also, because of rounding/truncation errors (the "Now playing bar" is narrower compared to Track Tool display) - some peaks can be lost or become bigger/smaller. But... no one promised that waveform will be 100% correct :) It just shows the general image of track.

One other song that I looked at in TrackTool (but can't find it now to show you) had one serious
peak at the Top and one serious peak at the Bottom. Yet in the on-air, it showed as 3 serious peaks at the top and 3 serious peaks at the bottom.
If you have tracks which displays completely different between Track Tool and waveform, please send it to support@djsoft.net for analysis.

(2) The end BLUE in the track being played seems way bigger than its actual size in TrackTool. In tracktool the difference between the end and the actual length of the song is 2.25 secs, but the Blue would indicate its way bigger than that. Yes, the blue section shows the start of fade out - it also takes into account the Gap-killer results. So, the blue line size = silence at the end + fade out time.

RadioBOSS 4.5.0.706
I'm afraid this latest update has been a disaster for me soundwise.
(1) Playback on my Behringer USB soundcard is now dead silence, the on-air shows its playing, there's a waveform, there is no movement showing on the Win7 mixer vu meter.
(2) When I switch to the Mobo soundcard, I get sound, but its gurgling.. music !
I have checked the Behringer via RadioBoss Ver 701 and another automation program and its working just fine. Only on the new 706 is it playing up.
LATER UPDATE
I've found the problem with the Behringer. Even tho I checked for this earlier (also a mystery coz it clearly wasn't muted - the very thing I was looking for. The only change I made was going from 48000 to 44100 to see if that would have any affect), whats happening is that RadioBoss 706 has reverted to muting the sound.
EVEN LATER UPDATE
I rechecked problem No 2, and now its no longer happening ! This is another mystery, and I apologise for having drawn it to your attention without having done several re-tests.

For some weird reason Windows mutes the sound for RB application. You can click the sound icon in the system tray and unmute it... as a temporary solution.

RadioBOSS 4.5.0.706 Released!
http://dl.djsoft.net/beta/radioboss_4.5_beta.exe
Changes:
- Now it's possible to switch the "On air" visualization mode by clicking middle mouse button on it or via Settings->View; Possible modes are: No visualization, Spectrum, Waveform.
- Fixed performance issues when using the Waveform mode.

hello djsoft, by default a middle mouse click is associated to the 'task switch' same as a 'alt+tab' from the keyboard (at least with windows 7), my ideas, contextual menu on the right click with the possibility to chose wave, spectrum or nothing (3 mutual excluded items), for seeking in the current played song 'ctrl + left arrow', 'ctrl + right arrow' (but i still don't understand how this feature can be useful, anyway somebody required it)

another thing, after change the 'on-air' visualization mode in setting, preferences, view, a restart of RB is required?

regards, Paolo

hello djsoft, by default a middle mouse click is associated to the 'task switch' same as a 'alt+tab' from the keyboard (at least with windows 7),
Strange defaults you have. The only task switches keys for Vista or 7 are: Alt+Tab and Win+Tab.
It's definitely your mouse driver which provides this "feature". Many software apps have something binded to Middle-click, for example, Opera/Firefox/IE to open link in a new tab.

my ideas, contextual menu on the right click with the possibility to chose wave, spectrum or nothing (3 mutual excluded items), for seeking in the current played song 'ctrl + left arrow', 'ctrl + right arrow' (but i still don't understand how this feature can be useful, anyway somebody required it)
Context menu will require 2 click to perform an operation, while middle-click will require only one :)
Seeking via arrows is not very good. Imagine you want to seek 60 minutes track from start to end... You'll need to hold the ctrl+arrow for a long time.

another thing, after change the 'on-air' visualization mode in setting, preferences, view, a restart of RB is required?
Paolo
It's a bug, will be fixed - changes will be applied instantly.

RadioBOSS 4.5.0.715 Released!
http://dl.djsoft.net/beta/radioboss_4.5_beta.exe
Changes:
- Possible to select sample freq and channels (mono/stereo) for each encoder in broadcasting
- Added a button to toolbar (Earth icon) to turn on/off broadcasting
* to avoid resampling and save some (little) CPU time, it's recommended to use the same samplerate for the Mixer (Playback->Mixer samplerate) and encoders.

Hello Djsoft
There are no indicators to show what the form of measurements are that are being used in Autoamp (AGC) ?
So could you tell me please what scale/s of measurement the settings are based on ? Or better perhaps, show in the actual AGC what they are ?
For instance, Target Level of 1.00 appears to be 0db and 0.98 appears to be approx -2db and so on. I'm judging this using the FX vu meter which in turn does not indicate what its own scale of measurement is (and I'm presuming it is db levels), but its also hard to judge because the vu meter has a very quick floating top level, rather than a slow moving one to indicate the peak.
I'm asking because in a commercial environment, we would normally always use db levels for anything to do with software and/or hardware, to maintain that constant relativity.
What I'm asking for is exactly like what is in the Compressor which is clearly spelt out (the exception being Ratio, but I happen to know all about that from using hardware compressors, but thats me and not others).

Information Tag - PlayCount and LastPlay
I think this is a bug that may only apply to Win 7. It doesn't seem to be happening in Win XP.
In Win 7
Unless a track has been looked at in Tracktool (and I mean looked at, not necessarily changed in any way, just looked at and the OK button pressed), RB ignores updating the Playcount, Last Play information when it comes up in the playlist.
Once you have looked at/changed something in Tracktool, everything is fine and works, as it should do.

A Suggestion Only
Now this is my idea only and I'm bringing it up so as to solve a problem I'm having.
I cannot see a way of determining visually (and quickly) if I have already processed a song in Tracktool.
Would it be possible in some way to change the music symbol in the playlist somehow so as to show, YES this song has been already processed in Tracktool and I don't need to look at it again. Maybe its a new track that I didn't realise hasn't been touched by tracktool, so when I see the old symbol I then know it needs to be checked ?
Maybe just a different music symbol or something to show there's been a change ?
Maybe others might like to add their thoughts on this request ?

In one of the next updates the units for AutoAmp will be changed to dB.
While update is not released, you can use this formula to convert to dB:
dB = 20 * log10(level)
or, get level value for a desired dB like this:
level = 10^(db / 20)
for example, if you need -3dB to be the target level, it will be 10^(-3/20) = 0.71

Unless a track has been looked at in Tracktool (and I mean looked at, not necessarily changed in any way, just looked at and the OK button pressed), RB ignores updating the Playcount, Last Play information when it comes up in the playlist.
This should work the same in all OS'es. RadioBOSS is developed under Windows 7 64-bit, and then tested under XP and all other systems... Added it to the bug list.
The suggestion to add an icon to "processed" tracks is also there.

Hey djsoft,

Have been playing around with the software a little bit.  I have noticed while using Windows 7 RadioBOSS does not like to do the snap to the side of the screen.  I know this is just an astectic issue, but I though you would like to know.

Thanks

There were many changes done in the RadioBOSS audio engine starting from 4.4 version, which doesn't allow to use voice tracks yet. Soon the voice tracking option will be back :)

Have not noticed any other problems yet.  Question about this version though.  If I purchase 4.4 now will it be a free upgrade to 4.5 or will I have to pay for it again.  Just want to be sure.

Thanks, love the software

Also, when I use the Playlist Generator Pro "Do not repeat artist for" feature, I put the "Consider strings identical when matching for" to 100% but it still plays a artist twice, for example it will play "XYZ Band" but then play "XYZ Band & ABC Group" right after. Not sure if i'm doing something wrong of if its not working right.

There are no limits in RadioBOSS for file lenght. What's wrong with 24 hour files?

Also, when I use the Playlist Generator Pro "Do not repeat artist for" feature, I put the "Consider strings identical when matching for" to 100% but it still plays a artist twice, for example it will play "XYZ Band" but then play "XYZ Band & ABC Group" right after. Not sure if i'm doing something wrong of if its not working right.
In this case, you should set the matching percentage to about 50%.
If you set to 100%, this means titles have to fully match each other, eg "XYZ Band" is different artist compared to "XYZ Band & ABC Group". But if you set to 50%, those artists will be considered as the same.

Hey djsoft

the problem with 24 hour file is that, it plays fine when you try to seek the 24 hour file to different spot of you left on

it won't allow us to seek that far into the 24 hour file, it just allows to seek it a little abit and not allow us to seek it when we seek it at

thats the problem

Hello djsoft!

I was making a list of things I noticed in RB 4.5, and one of them was already mentioned... the "Export To Player" issue, so no need to go into that.

The other things I've noticed, were that I think the Track Tool could use a Zoom feature on the waveform. Is this possible? I've worked with ENCO, and NexGen and they have it (of course, I know those are the higher end radio automation systems) but that zoom function just makes life so much easier when setting start/end and segue (or mix) positions.

Another thing that would make life just that much easier would be a "Select All" check box in the Hours scrren (when adding a Scheduled event) .. I run my Station ID, and :15 Promos off the Scheduler, and I required all hours to be checked. It was just a small pain to go through and check every box for every hour =)

Aside from that, I loooooove love love RB 4.5. It's everything (and more) that I could have hoped for. Thanks for your continued dedication, and hard work!

Why can't we select "Use all tracks from source" in Playlist Generator Pro?
Title: Re: RadioBOSS 4.5 [beta]
Post by: exposureir on February 23, 2011, 03:54:14 PM
Also, When I try to Schedule playlist generator I put "generate rap" but when it generates it, it only inserts one track. Is it trying to call a Playlist Generator preset or a Playlist Generator Pro preset? Cause I have a Playlist Generator Pro preset called "rap" which should generate 4 hours worth of music, but I do not have a Playlist Generator preset called "rap", so is it trying to call the Playlist Generator preset and if so how can I get it to use Playlist Generator Pro?

Also it is selecting songs from my Rock database and not my Rap database, so I am guessing that its trying to use the Playlist Generator preset.

It's better to use the wizard to create scheduler commands.
Command generate using the Playlist Generator Pro: generate [pro] preset_name

I think someone mentioned this a while back but I can't remember so I will ask again.

Why can't we select "Use all tracks from source" in Playlist Generator Pro?
It's just not implemented yet...

Hey, The program came up and said something like "The key is invalid save your work NOW or you will be forced to shut down" then asked to enter key and whatnot. I tried to enter my key but it said it was invalid but it seams to be working now but I'm not sure why it did that?

Also not sure what happed, but I have a Playlist Generator Pro running by schedule at :00,:15,:30, and :45 of each hour, It was working at first but now im getting this error:

PlGen Error: 259 (C:\Program Files (x86)\RadioBOSS\PlaylistGeneratorPro.exe ""-hidden="1 jingle") preset: "1 jingle"

The exact error I am getting is:

Your temporary key has expired. If you believe this message is in error, please contact the program's author.

Then it gives me options to "Enter Key", "OK", or "Buy Now!"

This happens when I try to run Playlist Generator Pro by schedule or open Playlist Generator Pro at all.

Okay, I shut down RadioBOSS, when I brought it back up it came to the trial window and said that it was in trial mode. I entered my key and activated, worked fine.

Its working fine now, but I am not sure why it did that before? May be a bug.

Not really sure why it does this, but I have noticed that once in a while the song playing will end early then skip to the next song. I looked at the song and it shouldn't end like it does, so I don't believe it is the track, but I know one of the tracks that it just did it to, so I can send it to you if you need me to.

It is a WMA file if that helps at all.

Okay it is telling me my key is invalid again and won't let me activate again.

I get "An error occurred. Code: 13 (Incorrect unlock code). Please contact support@djsoft.net" and my station is down right now (Well, im running off the trial).

I am not trying to bug or anything, but you think you can get this fixed soon?

Thanks alot!

Here's another interesting thing...if you could integrate it, it would be awesome!

I used Shout! Radio Automation for a while, and they had this nifty little feature where you could "append" a track to the beginning or end of a song. I used it for artist/station identification - where one of the band members would record "Hey, this is Daniel from In Betrayal, and you're listening to Gen2point0 Radio" and then it would go into an In Betrayal song.

Others could use it for like song tagging (without having to actually edit the audio of the song file) like the station I work for does with new music, or that I've heard on other stations when there's no live jock -as a way to ID the song/artist.

It worked like this: In the track info, the file patch you wanted to append to the music track was specified .. and then whenever that track was scheduled, the appended track would be scheduled in the position immediately before it.

Is that something that's not too hard to do? Cause I could (and I'm sure that would open up a window for others to) definitely be able to use it.

Thanks again Djsoft!

There used to be such a feature in previous versions of RadioBOSS, called Voice Track. It's disabled now (because of massive changes in program code and other architecture changes), but will be back soon, new and improved :)

Something else I just noticed, When I do Profile Generator Pro by schedule, it will play a artist twice when it shouldn't. Went and looked in Playlist Generator Pro and for some reason it is not saving the "Do not repeat artist" and "Do not repeat track" options, and when I switch from one preset to another it does not update.

I just noticed something happening as well.

I have an event scheduled to run a promo at :15 after the top of the hour. However, I unchecked every day of the week, which means it should not run at all... yet, it's still running! Magic! hehe

Just wanted to let you know about that. =)

No, the only thing I have checked is "Remove previous schedule from playlist" and "Hours". No dates at all, which is what I thought would have made it not run. It's okay.. I can just delete it if I don't want it to run, I was just wondering why it would run when there was no date selected hehe

Thanks!

hahaha sorry to bug you.. another thing I just noticed was songs being scheduled that I took out of my music library (and saved after I removed them). I have the same base .xml file, but I took some songs out (like cover songs, and different genre songs) and popping in every once in a while to listen (just to see how the station sounds) I hear these songs being played. Uh-oh hehe

Just to give you an idea, every 6 hours I have the Playlist Generator Pro schedule a music list for the next 6 hours.

I just saved the music library as a different name and plugged that into my saved template in PGPro to see if that will alleviate the problem.

Thanks man!

Double-checked the scheduler. If use the "Hours" option and all week days turned off (but "Week days" option stays on), the task doesn't start. As it supposed to. Please post a screenshot of settings of settings you used.

You use that base.xml file as a track source? If yes, it's absolutely impossible for Playlist Generator to take deleted tracks. When you save library, the file is overwritten completely, and there's no way for deleted tracks to remain in this file.
I suppose, you have this file saved in 2 locations by accident: one you edit in the Library and another file used by Playlist Generator. Please check it.

Not until it's released... While it's still in beta - I don't see any reason to add its support. BTW if you ente genre and URL for your station, probably it'll connect to the Shoutcastv2 server.

Sorry to keep bothering you hehe but I ran into a problem today. Somehow RadioBoss crashed while I was at work because it was not running when I just got home.

Not the biggest deal. The real problem is that upon start up it's telling me that my key is not valid, and will not take the key that you sent me! =X

Please advise me sir, on what to do about this.

my e-mail is chris@gen2point0.com if you need to get a hold of me outside the forum.

There's a bug with beta version keys - some keys expire suddenly and close the program. Keys were supposed to stop work at March, 15... but it happened earlier for some reason I don't know. An update will be released tomorrow with this bug fixed (I hope). Anyway, all beta version keys will expire in less than 2 weeks... As mentioned in first post, for all beta testers there are discounts starting from 30% - you may contact sales@djsoft.net for details.
Thanks and sorry for that mess with keys...

when will we be able to change the name for all connections. every cast just copies the same info for the station as the other outputs.

Is this now next in line on the next update?

I support nyankee in his request.
I too have a need for every broadcast to have totally individual information, rather than the bulk way it is at the moment.
Something along the lines of Edcast and the way they do it, would be much better.

Well done with the Final Release...it seems to be operating extremely well. Quite an improvement over your previous final releases. Remove gaps is working vastly better now that it is db based, and cross-mixing is sounding much better as a result to my ears.

Just some small requests for the next Beta:

(1) Could you please indicate in the Crossfades Tab, the basis of the units, that is, time or db. The way it is leaves you unsure and guessing. Or maybe there should be both options available in here perhaps ?
Is there any connection or co-relation between this Tab and Playback/Miscellaneous/Remove Gaps Between Tracks ? That is, do they both operate together, or does one over-ride the other, or are they just plain independant ?
(2) In Scheduler, could you please add in a line "Do not action this event when Playlist is in Stop Mode". And subaction box : "Activate upon resumption of Playlist". This is to stop RB suddenly doing something, or starting up, when you are in the midst of talking on-air.
(3) We need to do some work on the mixing point (db based) and how best to determine what this should be. This is rather than using Remove Gaps to solely determine it, or time basing it (which is too crude, but none the less preferred by some users).
Title: Re: RadioBOSS 4.5 [beta]

the sound is all staticy

This is mismatch of sampling rates and is a particular problem with Windows 7. Its not a RadioBoss problem, and you will need to adjust the sampling rates within Volume Mixer for each product so they match...not an easy task......so good luck.

There were some fixes in the released version (RadioBOSS 4.5.0.735) which improve stability, so you should update it.

I support nyankee in his request.

Something along the lines of Edcast and the way they do it, would be much better.
This was supposed to be done in the RadioBOSS 4.5 but there was not enough time to finish it before release... 100% it will appear in the 4.5.1 update very soon.

The Gap Remove faature and Crossfades are totally independent (well, not totally, see below).
- Gap Remover just checks the level at beginning/end of track and removes everything below threshold.
- Units on the Crossfade tab are "seconds". Crossfading works similar to what's defined here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossfade_(audio_engineering)#Crossfading

(2) In Scheduler, could you please add in a line "Do not action this event when Playlist is in Stop Mode". And subaction box : "Activate upon resumption of Playlist". This is to stop RB suddenly doing something, or starting up, when you are in the midst of talking on-air.
There's an option to turn scheduler off, located above the list. Or, it's not enough?

(3) We need to do some work on the mixing point (db based) and how best to determine what this should be. This is rather than using Remove Gaps to solely determine it, or time basing it (which is too crude, but none the less preferred by some users).
The crossfading in RadioBOSS works after Gap Remover. That means, if you have 3 seconds overlap (Mix point), those 3 seconds will be not from "physical" end of file, but from point where level is above Gap Remover's threshold. So, crossfading takes into account amount of silence at the end of track.

Scheme, mix point is set to "3 seconds" on the crossfades tab:
[-----xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx|xxxxxx--------] - music track
                                             |       |
MIX      |silence (8 seconds) determined by gap killer
                                             |3sec.|
                                             |11sec "effective" mix time

No, thats not enough. It would be a hassle to remember to turn it off and back on every time you do a live break. Events activate whilst in stop mode and its a pain having an item blasting out whilst live on-air.
But if you stopped a scheduled item from happening whilst in stop mode, then you also need to retain the option to have it happen again when the Playlist is resumed, hence Box No 2. As well probably the scheduled item would have to have priority over the Playlist track playing to ensure that the scheduled item does not play at the same time as a playlist track.
If you were to create such a delay box, then I personally would probably tick it for every scheduled item that I do to ensure that nothing activated whilst live.

Do you want events which were passed while playlist wasn't playing be launched once playback is started? This may lead to some problems when several, like 3-5 events, starting at the same time... Or it should just skip events?

Units on the Crossfade tab are "seconds".
Could you please show in the Tab then that these units are seconds, so its quite clear what the measurement being used is ?
Yes, this will be done of course.

About crossfading. Do you think that current scheme (time based points+silence remover based on dB level) is good enough?

Thanks.

Hi There,

I have noticed this some time ago but only now it has become quite important to me. When using Scheduler on time and day you can set the time as Hours, Minutes and Seconds but when you go to the hour's tick boxes to select certain hours it only has Hours and Minutes. It would be very useful to be able to have Seconds on this part too as somethings for me need to be set at certain seconds.

Another thing about the Scheduler i was wondering if there is or could be a way for Radioboss to turn the Scheduler on and off at set times to work around some shows.
Title: Re: RadioBOSS 4.5 [beta]
Post by: djsoft on March 13, 2011, 06:21:21 AM
The "seconds" will be added in the RadioBOSS 4.5.2 (the changes list for 4.5.1 version is full already :)).

Turning scheduler on/of is a good idea, but it's not that easy. If we add feature to turn on scheduler while it's off, there will be no way to turn off the scheduler completely...
Title: Re: RadioBOSS 4.5 [beta]
Post by: southsound on March 13, 2011, 08:55:54 AM
That is a valid point but the problem i have is sometimes i need the scheduler on to play things at certain times so its good to have it on, But sometimes i need to turn it off and on at certain times but i am not always able to do this so some of my scheduled shows either don't go out or if i forget to turn the scheduler off or can't access the computer then my lets say a 2 hour file might get chopped half way by something i have scheduled.

I do however understand what you mean, I just didn't know if there was anyway of adding a feature to Radioboss that could turn the scheduler at certain times on and off.

I am very glad to hear that the seconds will be added in 4.5.2 :-)

Thank you for your help

That is a valid point but the problem i have is sometimes i need the scheduler on to play things at certain times so its good to have it on, But sometimes i need to turn it off and on at certain times but i am not always able to do this so some of my scheduled shows either don't go out or if i forget to turn the scheduler off or can't access the computer then my lets say a 2 hour file might get chopped half way by something i have scheduled.
The scheduler on/off feature will be improved. Maybe new scheduler state will be introduced, like "suspended" in addition to the "on" and "off". Can't say exactly yet, but in 4.5.2 version something will be done in this respect.

I am also having a problem where it closes randomly. Doesn't really give me a error, just says there was a problem and it closed unexpectedly. I am using Windows 7 64 bit.

There were some fixes in the released version (RadioBOSS 4.5.0.735) which improve stability, so you should update it.

The last release you put up is 4.5.0.733 not 735. I am running 733.

The latest version is 733, but released version is 735, and that's what should be used: http://dl.djsoft.net/user/RadioBOSS_full.exe

The program suddenly closes? Usually antiviruses cause this problem - you should try disabling them.

Soon I'll start extensive testing with all popular antivirus packages to make a list of compatible/non-compatible AV solutions. One of the test machines have Avast 5 installed and RadioBOSS is running there for more than 100 hours already - so I can conclude that Avast doesn't make any trouble.

Also in the Settings->Playback->Miscellaneous check the "Disable 32-bit floating point channels" option. Some cards or drivers don't like it.

Hi,

Quote
About crossfading. Do you think that current scheme (time based points+silence remover based on dB level) is good enough?

Just to mentionned it is fine for me. Being able to specify crossfading values to specific file types is also very useful to me. Of couse it could alway be improved by adding "beat matching" and "beat lock" feature could be usefull on overlapping music when BPM are similars. But this is not so important.

About the scheduler, could it be possible to have a task to update music databases ?

Regards
Christian
Title: Re: RadioBOSS 4.5 [beta]
Post by: djsoft on March 15, 2011, 03:37:55 PM
Beat-matching is planned, but I don't think it will appear in the next 2 or more updates - there are many other things (more important) which should be done... I hope it will be done by July.

What music db update task should do? (rescan the music folder and add new tracks/remove deleted tracks I suppose?)

Hi,

I agree no rush for beat matching feature, Playlist gen pro is a much much higher priority, at least to me.
Yes updating all or one specific database(s) from the directory (ies) it relies on. Adding new tracks, deleting entries for removed tracks.
I manage tracks on server using SFTP. If automatic schedule task then no need to connect using RDP to update manually. Just have to wait a few hours.

Christian

I ran into this error again. It just told me RadioBOSS closed unexpectedly and then I had to restart it. I am not sure why it is doing this. I may re-install windows (I need to do this anyway) and im not sure if that will help or not.

Once again I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

Are you using the HTTP request/FTP upload feature? If yes, turn it off, this may help.

During beta testing there were some bugs found, also our testing team found more bugs before release... but there are still bugs remaining.

Working on it now. First tests show that it's HTTP request feature causing this, and it's fixed. That's the error some other users experienced.
The bassmix.dll is something new... More info needed:
1) Are any Winamp plugins used
2) What soundcard
3) OS and version

New release will be in 5 hours... First tests show it's very stable, but there's always something wrong on user's machines :)

That's what I don't understand, because audio engine wasn't modified. New version only has new UI and some non-global changes, which shouldn't lead to crashes.
We're doing testing and trying to reproduce the problem. You can use the previous 4.4 version if it worked well for you...

Hey Djsoft

Yes it does, i just tested 1 mp4 file on windows media player and it does play .mp4 files on it

so i think there is a bug on radioboss then, that does not allow .mp4 files to be played

Title: Re: RadioBOSS 4.5 [beta]

The fix was related to another error when HTTP request was used. Problem is, nor we or any one of our testing team able to reproduce this error. If there are no winamp plugins, http/ftp request is off the program runs endlessly.

You can send us your settings, maybe there's something we didn't notice... Click Settings->Open settings folder, ZIP contents and send it to support@djsoft.net. Thanks!

Firstly I must apologise for having taken so long to reply to your questions DJSOFT. A family matter arose which took precedence and I have unable to take part in the forum for that reason.

Do you want events which were passed while playlist wasn't playing be launched once playback is started? This may lead to some problems when several, like 3-5 events, starting at the same time... Or it should just skip events?
I would suggest that each event have a "life" to exist after its original intended time to play. Add in a box that has variables like if this event is unable to play/activate within x minutes of its posted event time, then its to be deleted.

About crossfading. Do you think that current scheme (time based points+silence remover based on dB level) is good enough?
The answer is no I don't. I think you need to separate silence elimination from crossfading as they are two entirely different matters. Each should be processed separately, once again based on DB level.

I added suggestion about scheduler to request list. Will be implemented in one of the next versions...

About crossfading, I think there should be an option to select how user wants to do it - time based or dB. This also goes to the request list.

This is good news. And I agree with giving options. Its always good for users to make their own choices.

I've been thinking further about this. I have given the impression that each event should have a "life" given to it. But I think a better way of handling it would be to do this (once again giving users options):
(1) The event has "NO Time to Live", therefore stays and subsequently plays (but only on hitting resume RB). This could be more than one event.
(2) The event has a "Time to Live" nominated in minutes after its designated scheduled time, therefore either stays or goes due to time lapse (remaining events play only on hitting resume RB). This could be more than one event.
(3) The event has a "MUST play", regardless of RB status. That is, if RB is in stop mode for instance, then the event happens regardless. It could be a command happening outside the Playlist, therefore the Playlist would not start but the event happens, or it could be an instruction affecting the mode of the Playlist. This could be more than one event.

It's not that easy. If there is huge amount of options, program becomes very complicated to use...
Option for crossfades will be added (in RadioBOSS 4.5.4 maybe).

Yes, sounds good. But I think it goes to the next major update with public beta testing - RadioBOSS 4.6, in June (not sure yet).

Hey just noticed something that is kinda a pain. In the playlist you have "Start time" but this is not accurate because of cross fading. For example I have a cross fading time set of 2 seconds, so with each song the time changes by 5 seconds (not really sure why its 5 seconds, but thats what it ends up being), which does not seam like alot but over time it effects timing alot if I want a certain song to play at a certain time or if a band wants to know what time there song is gonna play its 30 mins off sometimes.

Could you make it where the "Start time" takes the cross fade time into effect so its accurate?
Title: Re: RadioBOSS 4.5 [beta]
Post by: djsoft on August 04, 2011, 07:04:31 AM
Yes, this is planned for future RadioBOSS 4.6 release. It's not that simple to calculate start time accurately. Many thing should be taken into account:
1) gap killer removes some time from beginning and end of track making track shorter
2) some tracks may have individual crossfading points
3) something may be started by scheduler making playlist longer...

We'll try to do something about it, but "Start Time" will never be 100% accurate. It's possible to make it better, so it won't "lie" much.
