Is it possible to upload custom icons for file types?

They already have a standard icon, it cannot be more clear that this is music 
You can set the custom icon for the file types, as on your screenshot.
Music icon is fixed, however, you can set a custom icon for played/next/playing tracks (Settings > View > Style).

Yeah, however can I upload my own? The current 'custom' ones all different sizes at the moment and it's not a clean look.
Those icons are the same size, or, more precisely - they do not have a fixed size as those are SVG icons that can be drawn at any size. And when they are drawn in the playlist, the size is exactly the same and depends on system DPI setting and also "Playlist icon size option" (Settings > View > Style).
The perceived size may differ based on how the icon looks like, and if it has padding.
You can make it look better by trying different icons and also in Settings > View try different "Playlist item spacing" options, increasing the size makes the icon less accentuated.
Currently uploading of the custom icons is not supported.
