I think a couple of other people have mentioned it but we're seeing it too. Right click > Delete all. The items delete momentarily, the software closes and reopens, the playlist re-appears as it was.

Considering it is a new feature, defaulting to checkboxes is probably the best option. If anyone saw it in the Beta and liked the behaviour they could switch over.
