URGENT: RadioBOSS 5.2.30.0 Failed when saving a profile

Dmitry,

RadioBOSS 5.2.30.0 has failed when saving a profile - possibly my fault - and now it tries to start up with these symptoms:

1. It's trying to start about 5 times every second
2. A small window showing "Information  Please wait a moment" flashes on the screen about 5 times a second
3. I cannot get control by hitting any menu items
4. The "File" menu items are in Russian language

Any suggestions ?  We are off the air with our primary PC and we are running emergency music only from the backup PC.

Thanks,  Jamie C.

Dmitry,

I have got the main PC running again by doing the following:

1. Created a copy of all the folders for build 61083730

2. Reinstalled RadioBOSS 5.2.3.0 over the top of existing one - still faulty

3. Uninstalled RadioBOSS

4. Fresh install of RadioBOSS 5.2.3.0 which created build 327206320

5. Copied all build files from old build 610837530 to new build 327206320 - still faulty

6. Copied select files from old build 610837530 to new build 327206320 - now working.  This was done in several stages and RadioBOSS was closed and restarted each time so that I could see what features had changed on the screen and whether RadioBOSS was working each time.

The difficulties encountered with the above process were:

a)  Soundcard settings were not carried across correctly and I had to guess what the correct setups were.

Is there a way around this ?

Also, with copying across the contents of each build can you tell me which folders can be copied and which folders cannot be copied ?

Folders:

database
log
playlist
presets  (11 sub-folders)
presets  encoder.prs  (file)
profile
report
style  (7 sub-folders)
style  (Default).rbstyle  (file)
style  Dark.rbstyle  (file)
temp  (encoder folder)
temp  various files
templates (3 sub-folders)
voicetracks  (24 files)

Whew !  This was a pretty scary event ....

Thanks,  Jamie C.

Can you please send the faulty settings (and all bugreport_*.txt files from the settings folder) to support@djsoft.net - it's required to analyze the situation.

For the copy question, the whole settings can, and should, be copied when you transfer the settings.

Dmitry,

Okay on bug report.  I'm 100Km away from the studio now but I'll do that ASAP.

When I copied all the build settings to the new install it failed to work and displayed the same symptoms as the old one.  So I assumed that it was a config setting that was corrupt and causing the problem.  That's why I added the config settings folder by folder while I checked to see if RadioBOSS worked.

Yes, it looks like a faulty config setting. Better analysis will be possible with your setting files or bugreport.txt files.

Thanks. At first sight it looks like the cause of the problem is that you have more than 50 profiles in your profile folder.

Dmitry,

As simple as that ?  What we have done in the past was to save the current profile with the date included so we could roll it back if we needed to.  We also do two copies just in case.

We can easily delete all the old profiles if that causes a problem.

20140630_JCC
20140630_JCC_backup

20141131_JCC
20141131_JCC_backup

20141231_JCC
20141231_JCC_backup

20150312_JCC
20150312_JCC_backup

Just looking at the profile folder now - there are 1038 files in it - some with multiple copies of each one ... with a trailing number after the main name like:

20150312_1400_JCC
20150312_1400_JCC_0
20150312_1400_JCC_1
20150312_1400_JCC_2

etc.

Thanks,  Jamie C.

Yes, a temporary solution would be to delete profile leaving less than 50 profiles. The next update will not have such a limit (by the way, the limit was introduced 12 years ago in the first RB version, and you seem to be the first one who hit it :) )

Dmitry,

Whew !  I thought the prize might have been "a cup of coffee and come over here to Volgograd to get it" :)

BTW, there are multiple copies of those profile files.  What are all the copies with underscore and a number about ?

Which ones do I need to keep and which ones can I remove ?

Thanks,  Jamie C.

Dmitry,

When you talk about profiles I am assuming that a profile is made up of several files under the /profile/ folder:

Example:

20150120_1100_JCC.hst
20150120_1100_JCC    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC    PICS Rules File
20150120_1100_JCC.prf.bak    BAK File

20150120_1100_JCC_0    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC_0.m3u.state    STATE File

20150120_1100_JCC_1    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC_1.m3u.state    STATE File

20150120_1100_JCC_2    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC_2.m3u.state    STATE File

20150120_1100_JCC_3    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC_3.m3u.state    STATE File

20150120_1100_JCC_4    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC_4.m3u.state    STATE File

20150120_1100_JCC_5    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC_5.m3u.state    STATE File

20150120_1100_JCC_6    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC_6.m3u.state    STATE File

20150120_1100_JCC_7    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC_7.m3u.state    STATE File

20150120_1100_JCC_8    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC_8.m3u.state    STATE File

20150120_1100_JCC_9    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC_9.m3u.state    STATE File

20150120_1100_JCC_10    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC_10.m3u.state    STATE File

20150120_1100_JCC_11    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC_11.m3u.state    STATE File

20150120_1100_JCC_12    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC_12.m3u.state    STATE File

20150120_1100_JCC_13    M3U File
20150120_1100_JCC_13.m3u.state    STATE File

And I assume all those "underscore number" files are the content of the tabs we have in the playlist.

So, question.  Are all our "Settings > Options" saved when a profile is saved - including all the soundcard settings ?  We really have difficulty remembering what we had configured those to and we don't have a screenshot printout of them.

Thanks,  Jamie C.

This is also possible :) But I'd suggest you to visit Volgograd in 2018 - FIFA World Cup will be here. Currently city is not a very good place to visit.

Of course!

The mugs should be available soon, I think it'll take a month or two (+ delivery) :)

That's correct.

Sound card settings are stored in the "system.ini" file. But when you save settings backup everything is saved.
Sound cards may not be saved in some cases as they may have different names/ids if you restore a backup on another PC.
