Configuring RadioBOSS desktop to broadcast to RadioBOSS Cloud

We are in the process of migrating from radio.co to RadioBOSS cloud. We’ve been successful in setting up all our playlists, schedules, and even doing a live show via RadioBOSS desktop client configured with an IceCast encoder.

We have one use case left that we are trying to figure out the setup where we would like to use RadioBOSS desktop client Cartwall feature to support a DJ show. While setting up the RadioBOSS Cloud decoder on the desktop, we continuously get an error message “Account not found”. The RadioBOSS desktop log shows the entry “[E40] Cannot start broadcasting (output 2) Error 40 (network timeout)”.

The accounts we are using are all configured with all permissions, and work fine with the Icecast decoder.

Please help with providing instructions for configuring RadioBOSS desktop client to broadcast to RadioBOSS cloud.

I’ve attached information about are setup:
  • RadioBOSS Client versions used: 6.3.2.0, 6.3.1.2
  • Server URLs used (all with https prefix):
    • cNN.radioboss.fm:<port>/
    • cNN.radioboss.fm:<port>/live
    • cNN.radioboss.fm:<port>/stream
  • Server Type: RadioBOSS Cloud
  • User Permissions: All enabled

I've done some additional testing. Here is my setup info:

Usually, this error message means it was unable to connect to the server. Do you broadcast using a DJ account or your main account password? The "RadioBOSS Cloud" option when setting up an encoder currently only works for main password, not for DJ accounts (we'll fix that soon).

For DJ accounts, you can configure it manually as described here: https://www.radioboss.fm/support/radioboss-cloud/live-broadcast/

In the password enter DJ's username and password, separated by a colon: username:password

When streaming live, please only use /live mount point. Using any other mount is unsupported and even if it works now, may stop working later (e.g. when we release an update that changes server config).

I configured my streaming exactly through this option and got exactly what I wanted, to be shown what is being broadcast live in the RadioBoss Cloud. However while I was using a manually configured server I was using mount point /grmljavina. This mount point is also specified in the cloud settings. The m3u playlist that I can find on my information card leads exactly to this mount point. When I configured streaming via the RadioBoss Cloud option it set the mount point /live. Now I have a problem that the sound is worse on my mountpoint /thunder. It sounds like the audio is double encoded. When I listen to the sound from /live everything is fine. Here, listen for yourself. https://c30.radioboss.fm:8743/grmljavina
https://c30.radioboss.fm:8743/live I read here that for a live stream the /live mount point must be used exclusively. How to solve the problem of bad sound on the mount point that is set in the streaming section of radioBoss Cloud?

Streaming to RadioBOSS Cloud is only supported on /live mount point (streaming to other mounts is not supported so how it work is not guaranteed). Streaming to /live can not affect quality on other mounts - this is technically impossible.

It sounds like the audio is double encoded.
It is, sound is received on /live, decoded, then encoded again for target mount points. This is why we recommend streaming to live in high quality, e.g. FLAC or high bitrate MP3/AAC.

I broadcast in aac 256 kbps. Most of my music is in aac vbr q6. Should I then go with flac streaming to eliminate re-encoding artifacts?
