Synchronising RadioBOSS Config Settings to Several PCs

Dmitry,

We have bought some new PCs for our Radio Dungog studio and will have them installed during the next month.  In the meantime we will be installing Windows 7 Pro on them and doing all the configs and preparation.

For the hardware we have decided to standardise on the same type of PC for all the equipment - and that is the HP Proliant Microserver Gen8 with 2 x 8GB of ECC RAM, 1 x 128GB SSD for the OS, and an upgrade to a XEON E3-1230V2 CPU.

We will run 3 boxes in the studio:

1.  Main RadioBOSS PC on the studio desk (main RadioBOSS playout PC)

2.  Standby RadioBOSS PC on the studio desk (mainly used for playlist generation and scheduling and web browsing)

3.  Auxiliary RadioBOSS PC in the equipment rack (mainly used for RadioLogger, RadioCaster and RadioBOSS for remote login access for playlist generation and scheduling)

Because we want to use the standby and auxiliary PCs as backup boxes we would like to duplicate or synchronise the config settings so that all 3 boxes have the same settings.

Is there a preferred way of doing this ?

We have a studio NAS where we can store master config settings and copy them to each PC if that is the way to go.

What can you suggest ?

Thanks,  Jamie C.

Depending on how often settings need to be synchronized, you can do so using the Settings backup and restore feature, that is located in the Settings menu: create a backup on one PC and restore it on another. The backup file can be created on/loaded from a NAS for convenience.

Creating a backup can be automated using the createbackup scheduler command: you can run it periodically on a main PC and make it create a backup on a NAS drive, e.g. createbackup Z:\backup-?yyyy-?mm-?dd.7z (or simply createbackup Z:\backup.7z if you don't want to store multiple backup files).

Dmitry,

Thanks for the quick answer.  That is exactly what I was after and that detail looks good.

The only thing that I failed to mention was that the sound card options will be different on each PC and so will the video cards.

1.  Main RadioBOSS PC will have two USB connected soundcards - one for playout and record, and one for prelisten.  And a PCIe video card

2.  Standby RadioBOSS PC will have one USB connected soundcard for playout and record.  And a PCIe video card.

3.  Auxiliary RadioBOSS PC will have a multi-channel SONIFEX PCIe audio card and one or two USB connected sound cards.  And onboard video card.

So it might be important for us to create a master config file copy that is a subset of all the features so we don't corrupt the different hardware settings of each box.

Is that the way to do it ?

Thanks,  Jamie C.

Different video cards (as well as other PC configuration) doesn't matrter, except for sound cards. If your secondary setups merely use the deafult sound card, then nothing special needs to be dopne: RadioBOSS, started with incorrect sound card settings, will ask to revert to default sound card settings on first launch (it will do so if you use RadioBOSS 5.4 or newer).

If you want to keep sound card settings after resotring the backup, you'll need to preserve the system.ini file (this is where sound card configurartion is stored).
